You've survived the first year of the zombie apocalypse. Now, wandering lost and hungry for days, you stumble across an abandoned, isolated farmstead. Could this be the safe place you've been looking for to make your new home?

Features

In the alpha releases, gameplay is limited to getting key mechanics working without expanding options. For instance you can plant, grow, and harvest but your only available crop is the humble carrot and potato. Options will be expanded after the alpha releases.

Things to try right now:

• Select items from your inventory to use - bottom toolbar
• Craft items using inventory - left side toolbar
• Defend yourself against zombies
• Chop down trees and clear obstacles
• Pick up items such as wood
• Build fences to keep the zombies at bay
• Plant, water, grow, and harvest crops and fruit
• Eat to restore health and energy
• Enter and leave the main house
• Sleep until the next day to restore health and energy
• Save and load your progress - please note that saved games from any given alpha release will almost certainly not work on later alpha releases

Things still to come in the alpha releases:

• Indicate where items will be placed
• Indicate which item will be interacted with
• Display calendar, clock, and health info
• Move personal inventory into storage
• Craft only in specific locations, with requirements displayed
• Make actions like chopping trees take time
• Clear tree stumps and boulders with pickaxe
• Clear fences with axe
• Water crops to keep them growing
• Harvest crops using hoe
• Crop growth speed dependent on season

• Inventory affects movement speed
• Zombies drawn to noise

Things to come after the alpha releases:

• Expanded crop and fruit options
• More sophisticated zombie behaviour
• Character appearance editor

Controls

Mouse for using toolbars and menus.

W / A / S / D — Move
Space / left-click — Use, take, open, close...
Tab & Shift+Tab / mouse wheel — Cycle inventory
Esc — Open menu

Install

The Itch App is a convenient way to download and update the alpha versions. However, you can also download and run the game directly as follows.

On Windows, find the undead-farmstead-2-windows-alpha.zip file in your Downloads folder, right-click, select Extract All, then double-click on the undead_farmstead_2.exe file. If you see a security warning, click Run. You can also unselect the Always ask before opening this file option here if you want to skip the security warning in future.

On Mac, find the undead-farmstead-2-mac-alpha.zip file in your Downloads folder, right-click (Control-click) and select Open. You should see the file undead_farmstead_2 now in your Downloads folder. Right-click this and select Open. In the security confirmation dialog click Open. After this first time confirmation you can just double-click undead_farmstead_2 to start the game.
